After crossing Vicarage Lane, the path continues along the river for quite a stretch (this is the paddling area) before taking a turn to the left under a railway bridge (sometimes flooded) and then through woodland back to Vicarage Lane which leads to the car park. Goldings3 milesThis is a short, but wonderful little walk on public footpaths around the pretty Goldings Estate, Hertfordshire. Refreshments: The Hollybush, Redbourn, Hertfordshire. You'll first climb up the steep path up into the Ashridge Estate where you'll enjoy the Monument before strolling around a section of the delightful woodlands on the estate. In the summer time, there is a field just opposite with the most incredible poppies. There are some mild hills on this option, but nothing too strenuous, and there is also a section of walking along a very quiet country lane, so be careful there. As with the first route, there is a lovely pub at the end of the walk for some well-earned post-walk refreshments. The total area of the park is 18.3 acres. Refreshments: The Red Lion, Breachwood Green The Bright Star, Peter's Green, Breachwood Green7.5 milesThis final route option is an epic adventure in the lovely undulating Hertfordshire countryside to the north of the village of Breachwood Green. To achieve this it takes you further to the east, over the hill and touches into the small village of Hare Street, before heading back over the same hill towards Buntingford. It should be fairly easy to plot using the Ordnance survey website or equivalent map. It also walks through the golf course though, so again please be careful in this section and the walk also visits the village of Little Berkhamsted where you will find a lovely pub. 2h 17m. You'll walk out of the village, going down the hill and enjoying nice views as you go, and then you'll enjoy a nice walk through the pretty Lamb Dell Wood. You'll also visit the pretty St Mark church at the start of the walk before you embark on your loop of walking around the woods. The best spots for padding are in Harpenden at the Batfords Springs Nature Reserve and in Wheathampstead at the River Park. Cycle or stroll through the 3.5 mile trail enjoying beautiful relaxing views of the water, nature and wildlife. It also calls in on the pretty quintessential village of Little Berkhamsted with it's cricket pitch and lovely pub. Its also perfect for cycling as the pathways are fairly flat. Once youve had your fill of the woodland, follow the paved part of Perrywood Lane in the opposite direction as it winds its way downhill and then back uphill over the railway line towards Watton at Stone. 3-Aldenham Country Park. There is a little bit of woodland and a picnic site to enjoy at the start, but then the walk basically takes you on a long sweeping downhill walk along the Icknield Way Trail that gives you great views of the wonderful Lavender Farm. It then heads west through more nice open countryside until you reach a fantastic county pub for some well-earned refreshments about two thirds of the way around the route. It will still visit the church and pub in the pretty village of Barley, but it also takes you on a ramble out into the sweeping open Hertfordshire countryside to the south of the village and then back through the pretty Newsells Park. Hertfordshire Walks Hertfordshire is a beautiful county that offers some of the most fascinating and picturesque walks in the country, from the rolling Chiltern Hills in the West, to the peaceful rural countryside in the north and the great market towns, pretty villages, dramatic woodlands and glorious canals throughout. After about 1km, youll reach Watton at Stone Common on your right which is perfect for a picnic. It is characterised by rolling hills, open meadows and ancient woodland. Most of the paths are well maintained which means they are wheelchair accessible. You are rewarded for your efforts though with some lovely views over Flamstead at the far end of the walk and a bit more exercise as you descend down, and then climb back up, the hill. RSPB Fairburn Ings is a nice day out for kids and a pram-friendly walk. If you head anticlockwise, the lovely pubs in Datchworth Green will be towards the end of the walk. Buggy-friendly walks around Surrey. You can park on the side of the road here or try the Hexton Road car park (SG5 3BP) which has space for about 4 cars. All-ability trails - three accessible routes starting near the visitor centre. With the farmhouse ahead of you, the road becomes a track which you should follow round to the left past a small pond. These very different landscapes each support a rich variety of wildlife, including carpets of bluebells in spring, rare butterflies in summer and fallow deer that rut in autumn. You'll still enjoy the church, Nickey Line and Redbourn Common, but about half way along the Nickey Line you'll leave the route for a big extra loop of glorious countryside walking - the highlight of this being the delightful Redbournbury Mill. We love walking the circular three kilometre trail through Waterford Heath. Heartwood Forest is a beautiful spot to catch a sunrise. It also has a much longer stretch of walking alongside the Grand Union Canal and then a lot more walking through open countryside for a real boost of fresh air and exercise. This alternative route however spends a bit less time in the golf course itself, and more time in the countryside beyond. Like the first two routes, the walk enjoys the countryside around the village and takes you on a loop around the wonderful Icklefield Common with it's stretch of River Purwell walking. It enjoys a lot of the main areas, villages and features that you'll find in the previous routes, but all in one long circular walk. Grand Union Canal stretches from London to Birmingham and passes through Hertfordshire. It's a great one for the kids as you'll first go on a little adventure up into the woodlands surrounding the reserve, before then descending down into the open heathland where you'll visit a large sculpture of what they will believe is a 'real Dinosaur' egg. It is a 7 mile disused train line (Harpenden to Hemel Hempstead Railway) that has been converted into a public footpath.
