The playhouse is producing A Shayna Maidel in partnership with the Jewish Federation of Greater Hartford and the Jewish Community Foundation of Greater Hartford. As such, he performed The Origin of Shayna Miadel at The New York Songwriters Circle at The Bitter End this March 2. Lusia (Emily Berman, left), Mordechai (Charles Stransky, center), and Rose (Bri Sudia until 10/22, right) are a family trying to reconnect after many years apart. Her halting English, her shyness about saying the wrong words as she learns a second language, is endearing. The father is insistent that the sisters live together, that Rose sleep on the couch while giving Lusia her bed, and other impositions.
